Q&As?

If you ever have questions feel free to email me: dressapp@gmail.com

So we were suppose to shoot the video last Saturday, but after a horrid week I just was totally drained. I sleep most my day away. This weekend was going to be a good weekend, but my mother needs help at the bar she works at. So I'll be channeling my inner bartender. :P

In other news I got the Dehner's back. They fit sooooooooooo much better. I'm so happy with them. They are super sexy and super comfortable; with the exception of they're still a touch to tall.

Horse showing is going to kill me this year. But I have my money set for my Imperial Officer costume ready. I’m trying to lose 8 more lbs and then I’ll get it commissioned. Excited.

Boot Sale

Dover Saddlery is selling its Ovation Ladies Dress Boots for 99.95.

Ovation Finalist Dress Boots

Dover doesn't have their size guide posted but I googled it:

Ovation Size Guide-Look for the Ladies Finalist Dress Boot.

Why are these cheap? They probably are good boots. I've never bought Ovations before, but the equestrian industry is trying to go away from non-zip boots. So they want to get these out of their stock.

Video update

Look for the videos after the first week of Feb. My fellow Star Wars nerd and high school buddy is going to shoot the videos for me. So at least the video will look good. I was a little worried. I'm not too keen with recording videos. :P

Gendering Boots

We have a new puppy and my mother went a little insane and was pounding his food into smaller pieces instead of just adding water to it. I let her know it's 3am in the morning and the pup can sleep another 3 hours. She had no idea it was so early. I'm also up because my lower back and vicadon apparently wakes me up after 5 hours of sleep.

Okay so I had to get that out of my system. The real post begins now...

Gentlemen this post is for you. My male BFF use to be ultra skinny in high school and college. Plus he had a short inseam so that made it tough for him to find men's jeans. So one day he tried on his sister's jeans. Well he found that those suckers fit him better. Jerk fit in a size 0 jean.

I tell you that story because riding boots really don't have a gender. The only difference btw the ladies and men's tall boots is usually the cut is a little more generous. I say usually because sometimes there is no real difference between the two in relation to calf size. I had looked at a few men's boots when I was searching for a tall boot because my calf is nice and wide. I think in some brands the calf was maybe 1/2" or 1" bigger not a real difference.

Usually the huge difference is the height of the boot.

So wisdom of the day: Don't let the tag ladies discourage you from getting a nice pair of boots. Ladies sizes generally come in more options. So if you do have a bigger calf and are tall you can probably find a boot.

Now if it comes without a freaking zipper is another issue.

mini update

So I'll be attempting to record two videos soon. I'm not too keen on the video editing process so hopefully they won't be awful.

First video will be boot fitting.

The second will be boot fitting part 2. When you recieve your boots ensuring proper fit. That may be delayed, hopefully until my Dehner's come back. Because the Dehner's are super sexy.

Gender Fail. Poor Boys.

Gimpel & Hermann Von Oppeinbroikowski, Gold Medalist 1936 Berlin Olympics. Couldn't you see Tarkin doing dressage in the very same uniform? :D In the Olympics in the early years officers were the only ones who could ride.

Of course we girls get annoyed when boys tell us we can't do something that we can do well.

In the past few decades horse back riding has shifted from a male sport to a female sport. A century ago women weren't allowed to ride in the Olympics. Now women kick some major hinny in all 3 Olympic sports. A few Olympics ago, we had an all girls Jumping team.

At the lower levels women tend to be dominate, at the professional level it’s a mixture. This is our Olympic team back in Beijing I believe. They all seem to be wearing dress boots I can’t see any lacing. But I’m not 100% sure. L to R: Will Simpson, Laura Kraut, Beeze Madden & Mcclain Ward Olympic Team Gold. Go USA!

Now let’s get to the real reason for this blog post. On the flip side costuming for Imperial Officers tend to be more men. But of course since the stores cater more for amateur female riders it’ll be harder for men to really get good deals on boots.

I was actually shopping at the Dover Saddlery in Chantilly and overheard the store attendant talking to a male rider. Ariats (which I <3 but calves are too big for) is a non-male friendly brand. They were talking about other brands, but that part of the convo they started talking about clothing. But the general conversation was, if you’re a boy, it sucks to be you because some of the horse companies are so male unfriendly.

But have no fear! Boys I’ll try and find good brands for boys and maybe I can find a friendly store that’ll give you guys discounts.

Closeout deal on Devon Aire Boots

Devon-Aire company is a no frills company. They produce average products. My first pair of tall boots were Devon-Aires. For 501st they'd probably be good buy. You may want to put an Scholl's insert, because unless they've changed the foot bed, they're really not for major walking. I don't remember mine being the greatest walking shoes when I had to wear them on a full day at the horse shows.

Devon-Aire Men's Cuff Lined Tall Boots $149.95

They still have a variety of sizes still available. Their sizing chart is absent, but I'll do some digging later today.
